In 2015, a group of students who had returned from studying in China, led by Dr. S. K. Frimpong, saw the need to create an association that would bring together all graduating students from China. A WhatsApp platform was created to which members were invited. This led to the discovery on another team of students led by Ms. Gloria Gyedu, also graduates from China in the early 2000s.
On 7th March, 2016, The team had its first meeting at Tayiba, North Legon, to birth the current China Trained Ghanaian Professionals. A constitution was drafted, discussed, revised and approved by the entire membership who put in place an Interim Executive body to oversee the activities of the professionals network. Subsequent monthly meetings were organized to keep the team vibrant. An online membership registration drive was undertaken to reach out to all Chinese graduates who are currently in Ghana in order to build a database for the membership. The Interim Executives, on 30th July 2016, paid a courtesy call on one of the former ambassadors to China, Ambassador Kojo Amoo-Gottfried who was then the Chairman of Ghachifa – Ghana – China Friendship Association, to introduce the network of professionals to him and his association for future collaboration and partnership. On 28th October 2016, the professionals network was duly registered to give it credibility in the Ghanaian NGO space.
In Feb 2017, the first set of Executives were elected into office to take up the administration of the leadership of the network.
